Charlie has shown incredible resilience and strength in his own battle with motor neurone disease and the AIBF is proud to support him. Charlie will attend the session as our guest of honour.
Liam Sheedy has over 25 years of experience of leading teams to outstanding results in both the corporate and sporting environments. He spent 18 years, until November 2020, of his career working with Bank of Ireland where he held numerous leadership roles that saw him deliver exponential growth across his teams.
In his role as provincial director for Munster, with responsibility for 600 employees and 500,000 retail and business banking customers, he designed and implemented the bank’s ‘Winning In Munster’ strategy, crystalizing a team culture that delivered unprecedented year on year growth in the province as well as significantly raising employee engagement and customer satisfaction scores.
Liam has also been one of Irish sport’s most successful leaders. Having played at the highest level, he is best known for his remarkable managerial success, leading his native Tipperary to an epic All-Ireland Final victory in 2010 before stepping away afterwards to concentrate on his banking career. He returned nine years later as manager of Tipperary and, remarkably, recaptured the title in his first year back at the helm. Liam has won numerous awards, including Philips Manger of the Year and Volunteer in Sport.
A member of the board of Sport Ireland – the statutory authority tasked with the development of sport in Ireland – since 2013, Liam chaired its High-Performance Committee and oversaw the development of a new strategy for Irish elite athletes and structures for the next 12 years. Liam is also a member of the University of Limerick Sport (UL Sport) Board of Directors and served on GAA management committee for three years.

On Saturday April 2nd, Charlie Bird will climb Croagh Patrick in aid of the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and Pieta House.
Due to Charlie’s Motor Neurone Disease diagnosis, the climb will be an immense challenge but he is determined to do it to highlight the vast mountains so many people have to climb in their everyday lives due to severe illness, physical and mental.
The campaign is encouraging everyone to ‘Climb With Charlie’, meaning not just climbing physical mountains, but getting through all the serious challenges in their lives.
While Charlie and his close friends and family embark on their climb on the weekend of April 2nd, the campaign encourages everyone all over Ireland and indeed all over the world get behind his efforts and arrange their own climb in their local area, with all monies raised going to two really worthy charities.
People can donate to the campaign or find out more on www.climbwithcharlie.ie. All funds raised will go to the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and Pieta House.
Due to COVID restrictions, health & safety, and ongoing environmental works on Croagh Patrick, the campaign cannot facilitate large numbers of people on Croagh Patrick on April 2nd.
Therefore, Charlie is encouraging people to climb in their local area, and to keep on climbing the mountains of their personal battles.
