In this Q&A, Alex Chernenko – Director at Translit speaks about the launch of their exciting RSI platform.

# Tell us about TRANSLIT
TRANSLIT is a Language Solutions Provider with over a decade at the pinnacle of interpreting innovation and their latest addition, TRANSLIT RSI, can become revolutionary.
Founder, Alex Chernenko, is a language expert. He came to Ireland in 2003 and had to overcome major adversity with seven failed start-ups. These experiences helped mould him into the successful entrepreneur he is today.
In 2009, the dream for TRANSLIT became reality. Alex registered the company from the back of his home in Dublin. And TRANSLIT got its name from translation and his other passion, IT.
It wasn’t until 2015 before Alex placed his entire focus behind his LSP start-up and the following year, TRANSLIT became profitable for the first time. TRANSLIT provides ISO certified interpretation and translation services in over 120 languages for businesses, government bodies, and individuals. They are also experts in website localisation, document legalisation, proofreading, and voice-overs.
With offices in Cork and Limerick, the team has translated in excess of three million words and provided more than 20,000 interpreting hours while serving over 10,000 happy customers.
In 2019, Alex partnered with local investors, Clashrock Capital, before they launched a new Centralised Interpreting Management Platform, TRANSLIT.com.
At the end of 2020, TRANSLIT received Business All-Star accreditations for the third year in a row.
This January, TRANSLIT launched a new Remote Simultaneous Interpreting (RSI) technology. TRANSLIT RSI comes in the form of a mobile app or web interface and is available on iOS and Android. It looks set to change the face of interpreting.
# What challenges are you helping your clients solve?
International communication takes place between different countries and people who speak different languages every day.
The only possible way to make this communication completely seamless is through simultaneous interpretation. This is real-time interpreting.
However, it is a logistical nightmare. Simultaneous interpreting is an extremely technical process in terms of the necessary equipment, but there is also travel involved and a massive financial strain being placed on the client who needs to transport their interpreter.
2020 brought with it Covid-19 which changed travel plans and the future of simultaneous interpreting, but now TRANSLIT has an alternative.
TRANSLIT RSI offers the chance to experience simultaneous interpretation from a remote location and without the traditional struggles.

TRANSLIT RSI helps you communicate your message with everyone, while also increasing audience size for smaller clients. There are under 20 companies worldwide offering RSI technology, and now TRANSLIT is one of them. Online, offline and hybrid event organisers can deliver simultaneous interpretation meaning just a one-second delay for their conferences or online webinars.
From a listener’s perspective, in order to access interpretation, the attendee simply downloads the app onto their smartphone. Then, they scan a code, plug in their headphones, and listen in.
The whole process takes only a couple of minutes and has left every facet of the language industry with a fantastic opportunity here in Ireland.
# Tell us about the response to new service, TRANSLIT RSI
The launch of TRANSLIT RSI was a resounding success and the subsequent feedback matched that. Between Language Service Providers (LSPs), interpreters, and the media, there were over 1,300 attendees registered for the launch event across Zoom and YouTube on 19 January while the app trended in the iOS store that day.
The response has been outstanding from the professional community of interpreters who can do their job without leaving their homes, which is essential during a lockdown.
There has also been a great response with Irish business clients looking to use TRANSLIT’s product. Further afield, TRANSLIT has had interest from the likes of France, the Netherlands, and Belgium for example.
