The Wicklow based business has achieved their third Business All-Star Accreditation from the All-Ireland Business Foundation.
The Accreditation is an outstanding achievement for Ray of Sunshine as it recognises that they have maintained their high standards of service since they were first accredited three years ago.
This is an independently verified standard mark for indigenous businesses, based on rigorous selection criteria. The Accreditation is overseen by the prestigious All-Ireland Business Foundation, whose adjudication panel is chaired by Dr Briga Hynes of the Kemmy Business School at the University of Limerick and Kieran Ring, CEO of the Global Institute of Logistics.
Ray of Sunshine Morning and After School Services is an award-winning childcare service for primary school children from the age of four to twelve years-old. The business was founded in 2015 by Amanda Spiteri, who at the time struggled to find an affordable childcare solution while commuting to Dublin for her work. Amanda understood the need for childcare which was both affordable and flexible.
Having an onsite child-care facility within the school environment which operates on an ad-hoc basis has opened up so many opportunities for parents and carers who are working or studying, which were not easily available before.
This is our third Accreditation in a row and we are incredibly proud. Childcare has had a difficult time, particularly during COVID-19 so this is a great boost for ourselves and our team. The accolade proves that we are consistent with our standards despite what is happening in the outside world and we constantly strive to improve each year, says Amanda Spiteri, Founder of Ray of Sunshine After School Services.
She adds, “I founded the business during a hard time. I was evicted from my home and had to start the business while being a single mum. I also have dyslexia. The Accreditation means so much to me as it has proven to me that no one should ever give up on their dreams.”
Kieran Ring, Deputy Chair on the Adjudication Board said in support of the announcement: “This certificate verifies that Ray of Sunshine After School Services has achieved AIBF 2021-1016 Business All-Star Accreditation for a third successive year. Ray of Sunshine has grown from one location in Wicklow Town to eight locations, employing twenty full-time staff and ten part time staff. We wish to recognise Ray of Sunshine After School Services’ conduct in the areas of trust, commitment, performance & customer centricity. Ray of Sunshine After School Services is hereby included in the AIBF Register Of Irish Business Excellence for the third time.”
Dr Hynes said the Accreditation, which is now held by over 450 firms, is needed by the thousands of small and medium businesses which operate to their own standards, but have nothing to measure them by.
“We evaluate a company’s background, trustworthiness and performance, and we speak to customers, employees and vendors. We also anonymously approach the company as a customer and report back on the experience. The business goes through at least two interviews and is scored on every part of the process against set metrics”, she says.
The All-Ireland Business Foundation is a national body which accredits best-in-class Irish businesses as Business All-Stars. The Foundation also oversees the All-Ireland Business Summit while promoting peer dialogue amongst our members on an ongoing basis.
