Clear Financial is a market-leading financial services brokerage based in Dublin.

The company, which is regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland, was founded by Michael Bradley QFA, who enjoyed a long and successful career with Abbey Life and Zurich.

In building Clear Financial, Michael put together an expert team of qualified financial advisors that provide protection, pensions and investment advice across a diverse range of product providers in the Irish market.

Over the last six years, the business has grown by over 300% and boasts a client list of more than 10’000, with client funds under management of around €320 million.

Director Ciaran Shanley joined the business in 2015 and has been instrumental in its growth and success.

Ciaran brought significant operational experience into Clear Financial, having worked for a large multinational for more than 30 years.

We spoke to him about the market-leading business and the secret to its success.

Hi Ciaran, you have introduced an interesting policy to support staff wellbeing at Clear Financial. Talk to us about that…

The well-being of your staff is the most important thing to your business.

We have a life coach who comes into the office every other Thursday and sits down with our team.

He’s there as a support to our staff and to assist in every aspect of their personal and work life.

As much as I hate to say it, the workplace will not be the same again post C-19 and having this valuable resource available to our staff helps in our response to that reality – people need to be supported through change.

Has it been successful?

Definitely. It has been a fantastic resource for our staff but also for the business.

If people are having a problem in their work, the chances are that they’re not alone so it has been very useful to bring those problems out into the open through a trusted impartial medium.

It has had a very positive impact on the atmosphere too.

Clear Financial has experienced strong growth over recent years – what’s the secret?

For us, it’s not about getting hundreds upon hundreds of new clients on an annual basis – we focus on really looking after the clients we have.

The biggest letdown in our industry is that there is often a lack of steady contact with customers and a focus on getting new business.

With 13 advisors on board, we do have a steady stream of “new new” business coming in, but we prioritise and take huge pride in going above and beyond for our existing clients.

With this approach, growth has largely looked after itself through referrals.

What makes you different from the competition?

Investment in our teams and in our clients.

Our main aim is to help our clients achieve peace of mind for themselves, their families, their business and their future.

It’s really about getting to know your client and carrying out a complete financial review before offering a tailor-made solution.

It’s not about getting the cheapest product possible, we complete a thorough analysis of the market so that we can offer them the product that offers the best cover for their needs and for their particular circumstances.

We have our own in-house compliance officer as well as a technical analyst who is constantly reviewing the market to support our teams and customers in sourcing the best products possible.

What advice do you have for leaders who want to grow their business?

Be a good manager and invest in your teams.

A good manager is empathetic and is a listener with an open door policy for everybody in the organisation, but most importantly they understand that a business is only as good as the sum of its parts.

Investing in the company and in your staff allows you to enhance the service that you’re providing to your clients.

Clear Financial is a three-time All-Star accredited business. What has been the impact of the Accreditation on business?

It gives me huge pride to be able to tell our teams that we have been recognised as an All-Star Business because of their efforts. Clear Financial has been successful because of the brilliant people we have onboard and this accolade is a reflection of that.

We have won multiple awards within the industry but this accreditation is an external quality mark that lets our clients know that they can expect a service that meets the highest standards.
